How do I set up an account for Microsoft Office 365?

Getting access to Microsoft Office 365 requires you to setup an account with Microsoft. You can access Office 365 by clicking on the following URL:

Here are some tips for using Microsoft 365 on multiple devices: Each person who uses Office on a device must have an account that's associated with Microsoft 365. This can be the account that subscribes to Microsoft 365, or any accounts that share a Microsoft 365 Family subscription. Welcome to Office 365 for beginners, this is the first in a series of training videos designed to get you up to speed with Office 365 as quickly as possible. Go to Enter your Texas State email address (e.g., zzz99@txstate.edu) and click Sign In. Enter your NetID password, and click Sign In. NOTE: If off-campus, you may be prompted to Duo to complete the login process. You have successfully logged into Microsoft 365.

Clicking on this link or typing the above URL into a web browser will take you to a Microsoft site. The following page should appear in your browswer. You may sign in (if you already have an account) or register (if you do not already have an account).

If you have never created an Office 365 account with Microsoft before, enter your University specific email address (ending in .edu) and click the Get Started button.

If you already have an Office 365 account, click the Sign In link in the upper righthand screen as shown in the image above. Then enter your University specific email address and your Office 365 password. If you can't remember your Office 365 password, please contact your student adviser and they will initiate the process to reset your Office 365 password. If you forget your Office 365 password, you can also click on the 'Forgot Password' link that displays when you are logging into Office 365. Clicking that link will generate a ticket for our Service Desk Technicians to initiate the reset. The Service Desk Technician will then email you and your Student Adviser a temporary password you can use to log into Office 365.

If you are registering a new account, the following screen should appear in your browser after you've clicked the Get Started button. Click on the I'm a Student option to proceed.

After selecting and clicking on I'm a Student you will get the following screen in your browser. Microsoft will send an email to the address you entered previously to verify you truly are the account holder for that email address. In that email will be a link that you need to click on to continue the registration process. Retrieve your email and click on that link.

Once you've clicked on the link in your email, your browswer should be re-directed to a Create your account screen that looks like the image below. Here you will enter your personal information to create your Office365 account. You will need to enter information such as your first and last names, data of birth, and a password for your Office365 account. Do NOT forget the password you enter here! You will need to use this password whenever you log into Office365. Enter your information and click Start at the bottom of the screen. How to get powerdirector pro for free.

You should see a screen in your browswer similar to the screen below asking if you want to invite others to Office 365. Skip this by clicking on the Skip option at the bottom. We've added a green arrow to the image below to point out where you can find the Skip option.

After clicking the Skip option, you will be prompted to sign in again. In the next few screen shots, we've logged in as a sample user for illustration purposes only. The screen prompting you to sign in is shown below.

Log Into My Microsoft 365

You can use the online apps by clicking on the application needed or click on 'Other Installs' to install Office 2016 locally. Again, the user reference in the screen shot below is for illustration purposes only - it should reflect your email address.

For local installations, click on the Other Installs link, to identify the language you will be using and to indicate whether your operating system is 32- or 64-bit. Installations for both are located under this link.

The following screens detail downloading and installing MS Office 2016 on your personal computer. Click on the Other Installs option that we've highlighted with a red arrow in the image below.

Log

Click on Advanced for installation options. Software installs are specific to your operating system's (bit) version. Note that if you choose an incompatible version for your operating system, you will get an installation error, and you will be prompted to choose again. Once Advanced is clicked, you can change the version to be installed.

Clicking Install begins the download and installation of the software. Depending on your browser, you may see slightly different pictures at this stage. You WILL need to interact with the browswer to start the download.

In the Chrome browswer, you are likely to see the following screen.

In the Internet Explorer browswer, you are likely to see the following screen. (The orange Office graphic only appears after you click on Run)

The installation process may take several minutes from this point forward. You should see a progress bar on your screen similar to the image below. Once the process finishes, a prompt will appear notifying you that the installation has completed. The Microsoft Office applications should now be available to you from your computer's Start Menu.
